What is a worker co-operative?

A worker co-operative is a business that is owned and run by the workers. At Redgum, the cleaners are the actual member-owners of the business. We make decisions through a participatory democratic process, ensuring all members have a say in the workplace. Click here to find out more about us.

Why use green cleaning?

Green cleaning methods can differ from company to company. We generally use plant based cleaning products such as; vinegar, eucalyptus oil, and a multi purpose mix.  All these natural chemicals are more than enough to sterilize the average house, whilst at the same time maintaining a high indoor air quality, which is easier on those with respiratory problems. We also use high quality microfibre cloths and mops, which effectively remove bacteria and viruses without requiring much water.

Traditional cleaning products can be very harsh and linger in the environment. Most cleaning products contain harsh solvents, detergents and fragrances, as well as harmful chemicals like bleach, ammonia, sulfates and parabens. Prolonged exposure to these chemicals can have detrimental effects on health. The U.S Enviromental Protection Agency list cleaning chemicals as one of the top three indoor pollutants, and CSIRO have estimated the cost of poor indoor air quality in Australia to be as high as $12 billion per year. 

Do you service my area?

We currently service houses and small offices in the inner northern and western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. If you live outside of these areas we cannot guarantee we will be able to clean your home, but we are willing to discuss the possibilities with you (a travel surcharge may apply). We organise our cleaning timetable so jobs in a given area are grouped together, which helps to keep travel costs down and clients’ prices down. Contact us to see if we currently clean in your area.

Do I have to provide cleaning supplies?
No. We bring all our own environmentally-safe supplies and equipment which ensures the highest quality clean. Our cleaners are trained in green cleaning methods which require our own supplies. However, we are happy to accommodate your choice of cleaning product if there is a particular item in your house that you need cleaned in a specific way.
Will I get the same cleaner for each clean?

Most of the time, the same member(s) will clean your home or office and familiarise themselves with your space. There are however times when another Redgum member will need to step in. In this instance, we will make every effort to find a replacement member who has the same degree of training and expertise. We will also pass on any specific requests or quirks about your home, so you are ensured of a consistantly great clean every time. 

Can I be home when the house is being cleaned and how long will it take?

We prefer if our clients aren’t home as it makes our job quicker and easier, ensuring the highest quality clean. However we understand this is not always possible – we can clean around you as long as you don’t mind accommodating us. The time it takes to clean a home can vary, but an estimated length of time will be communicated to you after the initial clean. Sometimes we work individually, but more often than not, we work in pairs which makes the work quicker.

How do the cleaners gain access to my property?

For regular clients, it’s ideal that we are able to have access to a key as this allows a greater flexibility for scheduling, as you don’t need to be home to let us in. Many clients choose to use a key safe box. We can pick one up from Bunnings for clients at cost (about $25), and may be able to help install it depending on the property/ lock type, which may incur additional labour costs (padlock key safes are easiest to install if you have somewhere to fix them). All codes are kept securely.

We also have a system for securely holding onto spare keys, but prefer not to as we don’t currently have a central office location and need to organise handover if the regular cleaner who holds the key is unavailable to clean on the day. 

Clients can hide a key on their cleaning day, although this is a less secure option. Ultimately it’s up to the client to decide the best access option for them. 

What happens if I’m not happy with the service?

We strive to provide a high quality service and your satisfaction is important to us. We will reach out to you periodically so that you can complete a client feedback form. If you have any particular issues please don’t hesitate to contact us – your feedback helps us improve, but we request that you do this within 24 hours after the clean. We can generally tailor a solution for whatever your needs might be and we ask for a 30 day period in which to remedy any complaint.

What is your cancellation policy?

We like to set up regular consistent cleaning runs and offer reduced rates for weekly and fortnightly appointments. However, we can allow up to 24 hours cancellation notice, after which a late fee may be applied. See our Terms & Conditions for more details.

Are you insured?
Redgum Cleaning Cooperative has public liability insurance and all worker members have WorkSafe coverage.
How do I schedule a clean or get a quote?

Use our online booking form, or call us directly on 0412 340 017. We will then organise a walkthrough of your home or office with one of our members. At the walkthrough we will look at the space and discuss your cleaning needs. Within 3 days of the walkthrough, our office will send you through a no-obligation quote based on your cleaning needs.

Am I locked into a contract?

For homes, there is no fixed contract. If you decide to cease business with us, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible, but at a minimum, you must give at least 24 hours notice to avoid any cancellation fees. See Terms & Conditions.

If you would like your office cleaned regularly, we will require a contract to be signed between both parties. Please contact us for more information.

Do you do end of lease cleans?
We don’t currently offer this service, but hope to in the future.
Do you steam clean carpets?
We don’t currently offer this service, but hope to in the future.
I'm interested in becoming a worker member. How can I work with you?

Please get in touch with us if you’re interested in becoming a worker member. While cleaning experience is highly desirable, comprehensive training in green cleaning methods will be provided for all new members. There is a 6 month induction period before new workers can become full members of the cooperative. If we don’t have any positions available, we can put you on our mailing list which will let you know when new worker-owner positions arise.
